Candy Cane Dreams
The spirit of Christmas was in full effect Saturday evening as the town of Goldendale gathered for its annual Candy Cane Lane parade.
The event featured more than 20 floats and parade participants waving, cheering and throwing candy to the crowds.
The parade marched from the primary school down to the courthouse, where the Christmas tree was lit and people socialized on the lawn. Following that, participants had refreshments and pictures with Santa Claus at the Masonic Lodge, where they got warm from the cold.
Sponsors of the parade included the Mid Columbia Veterinary Clinic, Vincent Miller Trucking LLC, Pacific Excavation LLC, Craven Construction LLC, and Golden Lanes.
Winners of the contests will be printed in next week’s paper.
Taking a plunge...
A cluster of brave souls will jump into the Columbia’s icy waters on New Years
Goldendale pool management announced the Second Annual Polar Bear Plunge this week.
The winter event, in which participants jump into the frigid Columbia River, is set to take place on New Year’s Day.
“This year we are already gaining lots of interest,” said pool manager, Lori Anderson. “Sheriff [Rick] McComas will be plunging and, if the high school students meet the challenge their principal, Clay Henry, put before them, he too will plunge.”
The event is a fundraiser for Central Klickitat County Park and Recreation District (CKCPRD), which manages the swimming pool.
It will take place at the swimming area along the river at Maryhill State Park. Check-in will be located in the picnic shelter near the swimming area, and there will be portable heaters.
Those who register by tomorrow, Dec. 19., will receive a T-shirt the day of the event.
Hot chocolate, coffee, and refreshments will be provided and donations will be accepted to (CKCPRD).
The Klickitat County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol and American Red Cross lifeguards will be present to assist with any emergency that might arise. The event is open to participants age 8 and up.
