It’s Christmas throughout the county!

Cold winter weather didn’t stop Klickitat County residents from calling in the holiday spirit this week, as many celebrated with food, music, and charity events.
At the Goldendale Food Bank, a group of middle school students brought in donations from the National Junior Honors Society food drive.
Mrs. Telford’s class got the most, with 169 cans, bringing the total to about 1,100 items.
Riverview Savings Bank will match a portion and the food bank estimates about 4,500 pounds of food will have accumulated by the end of the holiday season.
The Soroptimists’ Mitten Tree brought in “well over a hundred” hats and gloves, according to president Ruth Bruns, which she said is more than normal.
In January, the group will distribute the items to schools and organizations like Head Start, Programs For Peaceful Living, and possibly the Celilo Cancer Center.
The memorial star on the tree was dedicated this year to longtime Goldendale resident, Mary Cherry.
The General Store held a Christmas celebration Saturday evening to spread seasonal cheer. The event included a visit from Santa Claus and a contest, featuring a $200 grand prize gift certificate that went to resident Wendy Collins.
Throughout other parts of the town and county, Christmas carolers could be spotted lightening the feel of the streets with rounds of Frosty the Snowman and Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, while numerous other parties, Santa visits, and church services took place.

Chamber seeks participants for Home and Garden Show
The Greater Goldendale Area Chamber of Commerce has sent out informational packages to members regarding the First Annual Regional Home and Garden Show. The event, scheduled for spring 2009, will take place at the Klickitat County Fairgrounds.
“We are working with the WSU Klickitat County Master Gardeners and several area businesses to help make this a great event,” said executive director Mindy Blomquist. “The [show] is locally focused with the goal of helping to promote businesses in the Goldendale area.
There are several ways to participate, Blomquist said.
First, businesses that are directly related to “home and garden” can be exhibitors. Businesses interested in vending things, can pick up vendor forms.
Those not interested in booth participation can help sponsor the event.
Blomquist urged people to secure a spot before Jan. 15, at which point they will begin seeking regional participants.
For more information, contact the Chamber.
