An employee of Klickitat County Senior Services who is working on her Master's Degree in Gerontology, has put out a call to senior citizens and others in possible need of tracking bracelets.
"As part of my degree, I am working on a project to help caregivers of those with wandering potential, such as people with traumatic brain injury, dementia, autism, etc.," said Jackie Canoy.
"The project involves using electronic tracking bracelets to locate missing people after they become lost and disoriented," she said.
She said at this point she is conducting a needs assessment to see how many people in the community are interested.
For more information, contact Canoy at 509-773-3757.
Albin a Yoga Calm instructor
After a year of attending Yoga Calm training and practicing with students, Jeff Albin, ESD 112 counselor, became a certified Yoga Calm instructor on Mar. 1. The certification allows Albin to lead Yoga Calm classes for children ages 3-18.
The training consisted of four weekend workshops taught by Yoga Calm founders Jim and Lynea Gillen. The Gillens piloted Yoga Calm in 2002 at Estacada, where Lynea works as a school counselor. Gillen combined yoga with social and emotional activities and found that students were more relaxed and better able to handle stressful situations
Historically, children's yoga has often been adult oriented. The Gillens developed and refined their program so that it would meet the developmental needs of youth and be led by teachers with little or no prior yoga experience.
Albin began practicing yoga 10 years ago after a knee injury. In addition to the physical benefits, he began to notice that over time, he was generally calmer.
Albin began integrating yoga into his intervention and prevention program five years ago, and opted to include Yoga Calm in his curriculum.
Alder Creek Pioneer Picnic queen chosen
Candace Shattuck, 19 year-old daughter of Joe and Sharon Shattuck, has been chosen to host the Alder Creek Pioneer Picnic as Rodeo Queen in June.
Candace was raised in the east end of Klickitat County and helps her parents run their cattle ranch on Old Lady Canyon west of Roosevelt.
They run cattle year round in Bickleton, Toppenish and Roosevelt. Candace has been riding a horse since before she could walk. She raises horses and trains a few in her spare time. Candace also raises registered Angus cattle during the summer and calves out their first calf heifers during the winter.
Candace has looked forward for several years to serving as queen at the Cleveland Rodeo, one of the oldest rodeos in the State of Washington. She will be attending many rodeos in Washington and Oregon. She loves to rodeo and says it will be even better when she can go there to represent her home town.
She invites everyone to the Alder Creek Pioneer Picnic the second weekend in June, and reminds everyone to dance under the stars on the grounds on Saturday night. |
