Easter egg hunts highlight weekend

Easter egg hunts were prominent during the solemn, yet festive celebrations across Klickitat County.
Hundreds of children dressed in their finest clothes, some adorned with bunny ears and other accoutrements, were hard to restrain from jumping the gun on the hunt for Easter eggs. And in most locations, there were more things to be found than just eggs.
At Dallesport, Tootsie Pops dominated the landscape. In Goldendale, the American Legion and its Auxiliary prepared 3,000 actual, decorated eggs and Boonie's Restaurant threw in another 350 plastic eggs that rewarded the finder with free ice cream at the Restaurant.
Each of the kids in the tots section at the American Legion hunt received a share of about $50 in cash prizes and another $180 was dispersed in special eggs through the three other age specific areas.
Pine Springs Resort, north of Goldendale held an afternoon hunt that attracted more than 100 participants who shared the goodies and prizes donated for the event.
Lichtenwald recognized for salmon work
Daniel Lichtenwald, of Goldendale, was recognized for his many years of support of salmon recovery in Klickitat County during ceremonies in Olympia on Mar. 10. Lichtenwald was awarded the Salmon Recovery Lead Entity Citizens Award at the Lead Entity Legislative Day at the State Capitol.
He was one of eight award recipients statewide.
Lichtenwald is actively serving on the Klickitat County Lead Entity's Citizen's Review Committee for salmon recovery, the WRIA 30 Water Resource Planning and Advisory Committee and participates on the Klickitat County's Technical Committee. The award noted that Lichtenwald is dedicated to improving salmon recovery and habitat restoration.
"Through his continued commitment, Daniel has supported salmonid recovery by identifying credible and fundable habitat protection and enhancement projects," according to the presentation.
As representative on the Citizen's Review Committee, Lichtenwald provides technical advice on the identification, sequencing and prioritization of projects for the salmonid recovery and the evaluation of the technical merits of the candidate projects submitted to the Klickitat Citizen's Review Committee.
Lichtenwald helped to develop the WRIA 30 Watershed Management Plan and the WRIA 30 detailed implementation plan and has continued to promote the framework for implementing the recommended strategies to achieve the water quantity, water quality, and aquatic habitat objectives identified in the WRIA 30 Watershed Management Plan and detailed implementation plan.
Presby Museum opens for its 47th season
The Presby Museum, home of the Klickitat County Historical Society, opened for its 47th season on April 15, and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 15.
The Museum is located at 127 West Broadway in Goldendale. The furnishings and displays in the 1902 mansion have been donated by families of the area. A visit to the Presby Museum provides education and perspective on Klickitat County's history.
New displays of vintage clothing in the parlor and dining room are of special interest. Displays also include a kitchen, children's room, country store, homestead cabin and brand room.
Adjoining buildings display a complete print shop, a country school and farm equipment.
Special events planned for the 2009 season include: the Quilt Show on Saturday, July 11, during Community Days; Dr. Ogden's July 23 Concert on the Porch; the second annual Barn Tour planned for September; the annual meeting on Oct.10; and the Christmas Lighting Party and Concert on Dec. 6.
A special incentive for paying guests visiting the museum between opening day and April 30, is entry in a drawing to win a Klickitat County afghan woven to include images and town names.
