Trout Lake Annual Cabin Fever Festival has plenty of things to do
Here’s the line-up of stuff to do at Trout Lake’s ninth annual Cabin Fever Festival:
Saturday, Jan. 16
8k Nordic Classic Ski Race- 9:30 a.m. at Pineside Sno-Park
• The race is open to both competitive skiers and those just out for fun, costumes welcome.
• Register at Pineside Sno-Park at 9 a.m.
• Please remember to have a Sno-Park permit for your vehicle.
• Ribbons will be awarded to all division winners.
• We will warm you up with hot chocolate after the race!
Guided Snowshoe Walk- 1 p.m. at Trout Lake Preserve
• Come and explore our beautiful preserve in winter with wildlife biologist Harold Cole.
• Meet at the Mt. Adams Ranger District office parking lot.
• Loaner snowshoes will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
• Learn about winter ecology and identifying animal tracks in the snow.
Hearty Winter Soup Contest- 5 p.m. in the School Multi-Purpose Room
• Bring your favorite hearty winter soup for judging.
• A gift certificate to Solstice Wood Fire Café in Bingen will be awarded to winners in each category.
Community Dinner- 5:30 p.m. in the School Multi-Purpose Room
• Escape from your “cabin” and join your friends and neighbors for a winter potluck dinner.
• Otto’s Smoked Sausages and trimmings will be provided by the Trout Lake Men’s Club.
• Enjoy sampling entries from the soup contest.
• Please bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share.
Movie Night- 7 p.m. in the School Multi-Purpose Room
“Skiing in the Shadow of Genghis Khan”
• Journey to the Altai Mountains of NW China where skiing has long been the way of life for the people of this remote region.
Movie “Just for the Children” - 7 p.m. at the Community Learning Center
Sunday, Jan. 17
Peterson Prairie Cabin Open House- noon to 4:30 p.m. at Atkisson Sno-Park
• Join U.S. Forest Service Archaeologists Cheryl Mack and Rick McClure as they share the history of this former guard station located in the Mt. Adams Ranger District.
• Visitors will be treated to refreshments and a chance to warm up in this 1926 cabin.
• The ski route is approximately four miles round trip over beginner terrain.
• Please remember a Sno-Park permit is required for your vehicle.
Family Contra Dance- 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Trout Lake Grange Hall
• Come and join the fun of learning new dances and listening to a live band!
• A professional caller will teach all the dances, no experience necessary.
• We suggest wearing comfortable shoes (to protect floor, no black soles or heels please.)
Monday, Jan. 18
Kids Activities from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trout Lake School
• Students from the Trout Lake School Senior Class will be organizing and leading a variety of games and activities for kids.
• Be sure to bring snow gear if weather and snow conditions allow for outdoor play.
• Lunch will be provided by participants.

Jaycees seek nominations for service awards
The Jaycees are seeking nominations for their annual community service awards and need the help of the public. They would like to honor various young individuals in several service categories. Ideally the nominees should be between the ages of 20 and 40.
Nomination forms are available at Sterling Bank. Nominations are due by Feb. 1.
