Healing Room offers prayerful support

Lou Marzeles
News Editor

Terry and Linda Chambers see a lot of troubled people in their little space on Main Street. Most of them leave feeling a lot better than they did when they got there.
The Chambers run the Healing Room downtown. They’re quick to demystify the place and what it does.
“We’re scripturally based,” says Terry Chambers. “We operate in cooperation with many churches in town, adhering to Christ’s work.”
That work, according to Chambers, says that people’s physical health can be made whole through prayer and faith. Every Thursday night at 7 p.m., many show up at the Healing Room to find that out for themselves.
“Almost everyone who comes leaves feeling better,” Chambers says. “We’re a Christian ministry; our burden,” using a term many use to refer to a particular spiritual calling, “is healing.” The Healing Room offers its services for free; no one is every asked for a penny.
Asked if they have to walk a fine line with legal and medical requirements regarding the practice of medicine, Chambers says that’s not what they’re doing. “We’re not doctors,” he says. “We don’t make claims.”
There are reports of dramatic health improvements, though, Chambers reports.
“One person came in diagnosed with terminal cancer, given months to live,” he says. “The tumors were too large to operate on. After visiting the Healing Room, she went back to her doctor, who was surprised to find the tumors significantly reduced. They were able to operate, and today she’s cancer free.” Chambers is careful not to claim that her presence in the Healing Room was medically causal in the person’s physical change.
Each week several people visit the facility in hopes of at least kindly comfort and a helpful prayer.

Seed swap and food movie coming to library

In a continuing effort to create awareness of local/global food issues, a free seed exchange will take place at the Goldendale Library on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to bring bagged seeds, dried herbs, seed catalogs, recipes and gardening tips to share or exchange.      An optional potluck lunch featuring regionally produced foods will be offered, a short film called      The True Cost of Food will be shown, and information on the community garden will be provided.
Anyone concerned about food supply can come and learn how foods produced closer to home are more nutritious and flavorful, less likely to contain genetically modified ingredients and contaminants, and might be grown with fewer pesticides. Among the topics to be addressed are how buying local foods supports the local economy.
