For The Sentinel
People are eager to help a program in need even if they are having financial setbacks themselves. That was demonstrated recently at the fundraiser event for the Pregnancy Resource Center when an estimated $2,000 in pledges and donations came from attendees of the fundraiser.
“We received an overwhelming response to the article [featured in The Sentinel on March 11],” director Candi Twohy says, “Many people said at the fundraiser they didn’t have any idea” that the center was in financial trouble.
From the pledges and donations received, the Center will be able to continue to stay open for the next couple of months. Encouraged by the many donations, another fundraiser will be on May 27 at the Goldendale High School parking lot. The event will be an evening Walk/Run for anyone interested in raising money for the Center. The PRC is looking for businesses that would like to be sponsors of the Walk/Run. They will have their business name on the T-shirts runners will be wearing. Questions may be directed to Twohy at (509) 773-0506.

KVH Family Health & Wellness Fair coming
The Family Health & Wellness Fair, sponsored by Klickitat Valley Health (KVH), is happening Saturday, May 15, at the Goldendale High School Gym. The Fair starts at 7:30 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. This year’s Fair features its traditional blood testing and has also expanded to include educational exhibits, family activities, food, and free health seminars.
For more than 20 years KVH has sponsored the annual event as a way to offer convenient and affordable health screens to the community. “We encourage everyone to attend the Health Fair,” says KVH Chief Financial Officer Leslie Hiebert, “or take advantage of this year’s Pre-Fair testing at the KVH Lab.” (See the Pre-Fair test schedule in the Family Health & Wellness Fair Sentinel newspaper ad). “It’s a great chance for people to get some basic yet valuable screening done at an affordable price, right here in the community.”
Health Fair Blood tests include Complete Blood Count (CBC), Metabolic and Cardiac/Cholesterol Screen, Blood Sugar Test, as well as Prostate (PSA) and Thyroid (TSH) tests. All blood tests require a 12-hour water-only fast. A station offering blood pressure and Body Mass Index measurements will also be available.
There’s a lot more to see and learn at the Family Health & Wellness Fair:
• Free health seminars will cover the topics of ‘Your Wellness Prescription’, ‘Taking Control of Diabetes’ and ‘Stress Management’.
• Family Activities will keep the kids busy with a Kid’s Bike Safety Rodeo, Create a ‘Get Healthy’ Banner, a visit with Smokey the Bear, and a pair of Wii ‘Computer Games as Exercise’ stations.
• Educational Exhibitors include Therapeutic Massage, Chiropractic Clinic, Red Cross, Home Health & Hospice, Klickitat County Senior Services, Weight Watchers, Goldendale Swimming Pool, LifeFlight, and much more.
