Paw prints for sale by GHS seniors

For The Sentinel
The Goldendale High School senior class of 2010 is fundraising for their “Senior Safe Night” trip to Seaside, Ore., from June 7 to June 8. One fundraising event is selling paw prints.
These aren’t ordinary paw prints. They are being painted on the cement starting at the east entrance to the high school and working their way toward the school. Each paw print is selling for $20, where the name of a business, family, or an individual person can have their name written in the paws. This fundraiser is a great way to show community support for Goldendale High School.
For more information on purchasing a paw print, contact Brenda Humphreys at 773-5990.
Harvest Wind Project dedicated
More than 200 people gathered to celebrate the dedication of the Harvest Wind Project under sunny skies May 12 adjacent to the White Creek Wind Project, about 20 miles east of Goldendale. The 98.9 megawatt project began commercial production in December 2009.
Four Pacific Northwest consumer-owned utilities developed and own Harvest Wind: Lakeview Light & Power, Eugene (Ore.) Water & Electric Board, Cowlitz County PUD, and Peninsula Light Company (Gig Harbor).
Harvest Wind received a U.S. Treasury Department grant for 30 percent of the eligible construction costs. The $60.76 million grant reduced the project cost to about $160 million.
Representatives of the four utilities were joined at the dedication by local business leaders, landowners and local citizens, representatives from state and federal government, other utility representatives, and construction and operations personnel.
Robin Rego, General Manager of Lakeview Light and Power, served as the master of ceremonies and keynote speaker. Other speakers were Washington State Legislator Dean Takko, Klickitat County Commissioner David Sauter, EWEB Board President John Brown, Cowlitz PUD Commissioner Buz Ketcham, Lakeview Light and Power Vice President Gary Jones, Peninsula Light President Spence Nordfors, and Harvest Wind Construction Manager Bob Young.
