Notestine retirement party an oldies show
It’s Goldendale’s own version of golden oldies, coming Saturday, June 12, as the area celebrates two dozen years of Julian Notestine on KLCK with a retirement party at the Goldendale Grange, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Notestine retired May 28 from KLCK. His retirement party will feature a “virtual” morning show, as Kevin and Cole Malcolm from KLCK will spin records and yarns about Notestine’s time on the air. They will also play some recordings of Notestine on the radio from years ago.
All KLCK listeners are welcome to attend and are invited to show up in attire from the 1950s and 1960s as part of the fun. There will be a chance to congratulate Notestine, tell their own memories on the microphone, and enjoy a piece of cake.
Veterans Recognition presented by GHS students
All veterans as well as community members are invited to attend the Second Veteran Recognition Ceremony at Goldendale High School Gymnasium on June 9, at 9:30 a.m.
Nineteen veterans will be presented with a copy of the book The Memoirs of Klickitat County Veterans: Volume II, which details their stories of valor and service written by members of the GHS Class of 2010 as part of their Junior Project, assigned by teacher Maryanna Kruse who along with Nicole Lundin has edited the work.
With the help of Ken Marvel, himself a veteran, the students have interviewed and researched the lives and service history of these veterans: Ben Bush, Joseph Dressel, Pete Barnes, Frank Ross, Ed Weddle, Robert Felker, Kenneth Morrison, Jeff Furlong, Stephen Rex Miller, Jim Crook, Lyle Ferch, Jody Granum, Bob Kindler, Lyle Blanchard, Ray Mosbrucker, James Baker, Dave Mattson, Michael Henslee, and Karen Garcia.
Student-writers presenting the books are Chase Wing, Dylan Powers, Justin Garrigus, Kyle Ross, Cody Herin, Haley Grable, Leigh Montgomery, Jaryd Cline, Trevor Fields, Shawna Quantrell, Felicia Budde, Aaron Cochran, Addie Christensen, Kyla Harness, Sierra Davis, Mark Baker, Scott Valentine, Allysa Welch, and Elissa Bush.
Hoctor announces candidacy for prosecuting attorney
Lori Lynn Hoctor officially announced her bid Friday for the office of Klickitat County Prosecuting Attorney for the November, 2010, election.
Hoctor received her undergraduate degree from Central Washington University and went on to attain her juris doctorate with a merit scholarship from Ohio Northern University.
After law school she was recruited by Symetra Financial, a company in Bellevue worth more than $23 billion. While at Symetra, she assisted in starting up a factoring company within the organization, and assisted with civil litigation and compliance throughout the country.
From Bellevue, Hoctor moved to Goldendale, where her parents live. She commuted to Yakima to handle representation of parents and juveniles, before taking a position in Goldendale to work as a deputy prosecutor.
Hoctor was terminated from her job as a prosecutor when it was revealed that she planned on running against Craig Juris for the prosecutor position, Hoctor’s announcement stated.
Currently, she operates her own law firm in Goldendale, and helps her husband, Bruce Hoctor, a local rancher, with operations.
