Workshop looks to cultivate budding actors
Calling all Thespians! A thespian is anyone with a love of the dramatic: the lights, the stories, and the stage—in short, an actor! The Golden Art Gallery will hold a performance workshop for all ages. This free, three-day theater workshop is scheduled for July 12, 14, and 16 at 5 p.m. The events will be held in the Sterling Savings Bank conference room.
The classes will be a focus of performance training covering everything from basic breathing to developing character. The science behind performance will be extensively explored, as well as how to develop it. An example of a performance technique is the simple act of breathing, which can transform a character from ethereal to devious.
The workshops will be conducted by Mindy Blomquist, who brings to the table more than 10 years of theatrical experience. “Theater should be something that everyone has the chance to experience,” Blomquist says. “It allows you to know yourself and then share that knowledge with others.” Mindy studied technical theatre at Brigham Young University – Idaho. She has supported, performed in, and directed numerous plays.
All those with a taste for the dramatic, or who just want to dabble in acting for a few days, can sign up for this special workshop series by contacting the Golden Art Gallery at 509-773-5100.
City flag noticed
Goldendale’s city flag was the center of interest and attention at the annual Association of Washington Cities meeting, held June 23 and 24 at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver.
Every year the association holds a parade of flags, and this was the first year the city of Goldendale had a flag represented in the parade. It was carried in by City Administrator Larry Bellamy.
According to city Clerk Treasurer Connie Byers, the flag was the center of attention, and many questions were asked about it as she explained how it came to be.
The 2009 Goldendale second grade class put the flag together by responding to a call for designs for a city flag. All the students’ entries were combined into the final design, created and constructed by local quilter Phyllis Miles.
