Downtown looking good

To the Editor,

Kudos to the City of Goldendale for providing the funding to Felicia Gray to beautify downtown Goldendale.
Felicia, volunteers from the gallery, and other helpers, have cleaned and prepared the barrels along the sidewalks for planting. They provided the downtown merchants with flowers and a sack of dirt to plant and maintain the planters.
Keep up the good work in keeping downtown Goldendale looking beautiful!

Parent requests clearer headlines

To the Editor,

On April 24, there was an article in the paper on eighth graders and alcohol. Please re-think your titles when doing a story. I felt as if that article made all the eight graders this year look bad. You had to read the whole article and read it carefully, to understand that this year’s eighth graders were not given the survey and your “half” number is really only a small percent of a percent of number of kids...not half of the eighth grade class. As parents, we first asked our kids if they had filled any survey out without us knowing but after reading the whole article, we found that in fact you were speaking of last year’s (2006-2007) class of eighth graders. Overall, no matter what class of children that was reflecting, need I remind people in this wonderful, small town, that these issues are not as big as some people make them out to be? Yes, we have drugs, alcohol, abused children and much more here in this town, but go to a bigger city and tell me what you see the kids doing and wearing there! Would you please be more careful next time when writing such articles so that you do not hurt the “good” kids who don’t do these things? I am not saying my kids are perfect because I know they are not; but it is things like this that makes everyone look “bad” no matter who you are.

More East County news please

To the Editor,

I have been reading The Dalles Chronicle, and the White Salmon Enterprise online for a very long time, glad to see The Sentinel is now online also. I get The Sentinel through the mail. I would like to see you cover more of Eastern Klickitat County; since the western part is covered and the central part is covered, how about including information and news from Eastern Klickitat County?. I belong to six of the oldest families in Klickitat County, also a graduate of Bickleton High School as are both my daughters and son in law. I know you are just getting up and running but would enjoy their news and the rodeo news. I know you just had the high school finals as my nephew, Kelley Bowcutt, provided the rough stock.

All community support appreciated

To the Editor,

We just returned from our optometric mission project in the Ukraine and Romania. In the nine days of clinic in two locations, we were able to provide eye care to about 425 patients. We also visited with friends made on previous trips and saw new territory where none of us had been before.
We appreciate your prayers, financial support, and assistance given to our families while we were away.
