Planning events was a great ride I was honored to have taken
To the Editor:
I would like to congratulate the Greater Goldendale Area Chamber of Commerce for obtaining the 2009 Tourism Information and Promotion Services contract.
I look forward for them to continue to bring high caliber events to the community of Goldendale.
I hope our local businesses and residents will continue your support to drawn tourism to Goldendale.
Am I disappointed? Yeah…hell yeah! This wasn’t a job for me - it was a passion and I was truly driven to bring some fun and excitement to Goldendale.
With this being said, it has truly been a pleasure and honor to be your “Director of Fun” and wake this sleepy lil’ town up.
This past three and a half years has been nothing short of spectacular. Not only are we now on the United States map, but I am here to tell you, we are on the “world” map as well!
Whether you like gravity sports or not, the Festival of Speed IGSA World Cup will more than likely become Goldendale’s Signature Event and I do hope the Chamber, City, County and community will fully support this event.
I do hope the Chamber will continue with the Fiddlin’ Around The Stars Bluegrass Festival, Washington State Mounted Shooters Golden Summer Rendezvous and Festival of Wheels.
These are all events worthy of our business support and tourist attendance.
Events are very expensive…they are not free and it takes an entire community to step up to the plate and make it happen.
Events average $15,000 each with minimal advertising.
There are several ways to creatively finance our events. It’s not rocket science, it just takes a community who wants to make it happen.
The participants who come to our events love Goldendale!
They have the financial wherewithal to do what they love doing and each and everyone one of you especially our elected officials should all be attending each event welcoming participants and thanking each of them for coming to our event.
You never know - one of them may be an investor waltzing into town to be the “new” start-up business putting 100 folks in town to work.
Now wouldn’t that be nice???
