With all that free time, why not fix roads?
To the Editor:
The mayor was on the radio recently and she made some rather unusual remarks, I thought. One of them was that she has very little to occupy her time.
Could I make a couple of suggestions?
How about riding around our town and seeing just what condition it’s in. Maybe take a notepad and write down what she sees that needs fixing.
Like the streets. I know for a fact that North King Street is a mess and this leads to the swimming pool. Children have to pass houses that are truly scary.
The streets need paving as does East Court. It has been in this shape for the 20 years I’ve lived here and not one of our mayors or managers seems to give a rip.
There are other streets also, but these two come to mind first. And the houses that are disgraceful. There are a few on West Broadway that have been an eyesore for years.
And the snow on the sidestreets. They say they can’t afford to clean them - costs too much.
Don’t the people who live on these streets pay taxes to have this done? One evening about two weeks ago I saw at least eight snow plows going down Broadway onto Columbus. All of them had the scoops raised. So why couldn’t they have plowed the sidestreets?
If the mayor has so much time on her hands, how about going around town to the stores and introducing herself to the store owners and asking for suggestions on how to improve our city?
If she didn’t have any ideas on how to make Goldendale a better place to live, why did she run for office?
Just a couple of questions. But no answers.

Spelling afoul in Little Red Hen column
To the Editor:
In regard to the column in last week’s Sentinel: In the version of The Little Red Hen that I read, the little bird was not a foul fowl, just an energetic fowl.
My Webster’s dictionary says that “foul” means “so offensive to the senses as to cause disgust; stinking loathsome...”
Please be nice to the Little Red Hen.
