Wind energy - Economic boon vs. health effects
To the Editor,
"An ill wind follows turbines" is today's headline of the Oregonian The article mentions a new phenomenon resulting from the construction of wind farms, called " wind turbine syndrome" which causes problems such as sleep and learning disorders, headaches, dizziness, anger, irritability, depression, memory loss, tinnitus ( ringing in the ears),mood swings and panic attacks.
I just read the environmental impact statement for the windy point 11, 52 turbine complex over 23,000 acres and it never mentions anything about possible health effects on humans.
According to this article, people can hear the swoosh of the blades 12 miles away, and can feel vibrations emanating from the machines. Neighbors are at odds because of one is getting well paid and the rest are getting sick.
The thought of our peaceful summer nights being interrupted by the hum and vibration of hundreds of turbines (and there are negotiations ongoing with local landowners to place hundreds of them right here in our beautiful valley), may drive many of us from this place we call home.
The deadline for any appeals to the windy point 11 projects EOZ permit issued by the count, is April 8, by 5 p.m.
Looks like they will win this round, but let the newspaper article be fair warning to those feeding on the frenzy of wind energy, you risk losing the support you will need to put another possibly 1,000 more turbines anywhere in Klickitat County if you don't address and mitigate peoples concerns about our health and the peaceful living we have had here for generations.
