Cheers to Home and Garden Show
To the Editor,
I attended the Goldendale Home and Garden show and was just blown away at the wonderful show that was put on. Everything looked so professional and well presented. I hope this type of thing will be a regular event here from now on.
The Chamber of Commerce had a form to fill out for attendees that asked some good questions. What zip code do you live in? Where did you hear about this event? All good questions, designed to help the Chamber put on an even better show next time. But I was extremely disappointed at the question, What other activities would you be interested in being involved in while you are here? They listed several things for you to circle such as skiing, biking, etc. Nowhere did they list motorsports.
I know there is a faction in town right now who does not approve of motorsports as part of our tourist attractions. I don't see how they can be so shortsighted. We have world-class motocross tracks that my nephews in Phoenix and San Diego are eager to bring their friends to try out. When a friend went to the doctor in Portland, the office manager said, "Oh yeah, Goldendale! I love that downhill racing thing on the old Maryhill Highway!" I live across the street from Centerville School and when there is a motorsport event in the county, the traffic in front of my house is tremendous. That all equals dollars being spent in our county.
Come on, motorsport supporters. Let's hear from all of you. Let your Chamber and your County Commissioners and the Jaycee's hear what you think. We need county support to continue to put Goldendale on the map. Don't let motorsports get edged out of our tourism package.
I have never had as much fun in this county as at the motorsport events I have attended in the last few years.
And I grew up here.
