Easy cure for spring fever is in your kitchen
To the Editor,
How many times have you wanted to start seeds in the house and haven't had the right containers? Every spring I want to rush the season. I guess you could call that spring fever. Well, I finally found the answer to this problem, and I want to tell you about it.
It is so simple and doesn't cost a penny. No ten or 15 cents a pot. These you have right in your kitchen. They are the things you discard, and when you see how this is done, you will smile with amazement that somebody didn't think of it before.
Go to your refrigerator and take a look at your egg carton. Everyone has one. See how beautifully they hold the eggs? If the egg was cut in two, half of it would hold a small amount of dirt, just right for a small seed while it sprouted and grew just big enough to transplant. You could set the half carton on your window sill for easy watering.
Research shows that the skin inside the eggshell is very nutritious for the new seed, so that makes everything very simple. Actually, this is all ready made for success. All you have to do is break the egg in the middle, poke a drain hole in the bottom of the shell, add dirt and plant your seed, and set the shell back in the carton, and watch it grow. Just don't forget to water it!
