Post office not worst eyesore

To the Editor:
I work at the post office, and I'm not going to pretend that it doesn't look bad. But is it really "one of the biggest eyesores," as one person stated in Java Talk?
The house on the corner of Columbus and Railroad, the one with the broken window and in need of a serious paint job, that doesn't count? What about the heap of clothes and assorted items in front of Fine Things on Broadway? And the boarded-up building on Simcoe? A glance at the weed-filled ditches and weedy sidewalks will not impress anyone.
All the money spent in our office has to be approved by our district. This goes not only for the yard work (which is not part of our cleaning contract) but also for the purchase of Scotch tape. I think it fair to say that we are as frustrated as you.

How can you really be weed-free?

To the Editor:
Regarding the recent article on weed-free hay: I am at a loss. Are all of our national forests being in, or out, as the case may be?
Are wild horses not allowed in or do they only eat in seed-free grassy areas? Do birds not carry seeds every place they go?
Or is this just a way for the federal government to cut down on our ability to enjoy our forests?
The fines seem way out of line unless we're paying a large group of people to pull weeds behind all of those animals that can't be hand fed weed-free grass. Maybe the elk feeders will have to buy weed-free hay at $75 more per ton.

Song showcase great success, strong beginning

To the Editor:
I cannot put into words the feeling I had at the success of the singer/ songwriter open mic concert at Pine Springs Resort Saturday night.
The musicians performed a magical mix of beautiful music. The crowd, 50 strong, was all cheers. Their donations made it possible for us to bring another show, scheduled for Sept. 26.
Deep appreciation goes to The Sentinel for great calendar event publishing.
I think we've created a venue here that music lovers and musicians have been waiting for.
