Songwriters pack in a hundred people
To the Editor:
The Singer/Songwriter showcase this past weekend doubled in size over the last show. Twelve musicians blessed the stage throughout the evening, performing for a crowd of around 100! How's that for a sleepy hamlet of a town in the fall? I'd say, with more shows already in the works, Goldendale could be on its way to becoming the Little Nashville of the Northwest. Our proving ground will be coming this spring when in conjunction with the Bluegrass Art & Wine Festival, Sunday will bring to the stage original music artists of the Gorge. We'll host bands and singer/songwriters for an all-day concert unlike any other-you gotta love it! I say, Goldendale-"Get ready, 'cause here it comes."

County assessor making wrong property calls
To the Editor:
I've just received a letter from the Klickitat County BOE raising my property taxes for 2010, doubling what they now are. It has me very upset.
County property is not selling, and if it is, it is at a far reduced rate. Plus the county jobless rate is at an all-time high!
What makes the County Assessor think this way? Was he under a rock for the last year? Get out and look at things in the county. We have a large population of seniors here who are retired-or are trying to be! We (as I am one of them) cannot afford to pay this kind of increase. And what is our recourse? To complain to a BOE board? We shouldn't have to do that, if the assessor did the job correctly and looked at the facts.
Should we sell out at a loss, after years of trying to make a place to live into our retirement? As far back as I can remember, this county has been poor. Only the county government has grown.
I have no problem paying a fair tax, but doubling the property values-no.

ER experience saves a life
To the Editor:
Bob Baker is one of our seasoned nurses here in town who recently came out of retirement to help us at Klickitat Valley Health Services. We are so grateful that that he did. Due to his many years of experience as an ER nurse, he came to the rescue of one of his coworkers who needed the Heimlich maneuver. As a result, he saved another life. She will never forget his quick response to a true emergency. I just wanted to say, Bob, we are all happy to have you back again.
