New regulations at Mountain View cemetery

To the Editor:
The IOOF Mountain View Cemetery is going to put new rules into effect on Dec. 1, 2009. The rules will pertain to the objects placed on or around a grave site.
The public is asked to stop using glass for the placing of floral arrangements. There are plastic vases or containers available by the office. The florist shops have already been notified that no glass will be allowed. The stoppage of glass does not mean just vases; this also includes, but is not limited to, candles, pictures, figurines, and other objects.
The public is also asked to refrain from placing numerous objects on the grave sites of loved ones. It is hard enough for the sexton to do his job without having to stop and move items such as wind chimes, solar lights, Buzz Lightyear figures, horses, stuffed animals, and yard decorations from the path of the mowers and weed eaters.
During the holidays, objects placed on graves dealing with the holiday will be allowed; they just need to be removed after the holiday. Plastic or silk flowers will be removed when they fade or are no longer appearing fresh.
The IOOF cemetery does not want to offend anyone by these simple changes. They are done for the safety of everyone that comes to the cemetery. Glass hit by the mowers will shatter and fly long distances. This same glass will cause damage to the tires of the equipment and to grave markers. A simple rule to use when placing objects on the grave is, "Place one and take one back with you." If it is getting crowded on the grave, there is too much there, so take something home with you.
The cooperation of everyone will be greatly appreciated.
