Writer's idea has no chance in real world
To the Editor:
Regarding David Duncombe's letter to the editor in last week's paper: Mr. Duncombe says he would like to lead 40,000 volunteers into some dirty village in the far reaches of Afghanistan to sit around in some dirt-floored hut with people who not only don't speak your language but hate you and everything about your culture. He is way too valuable as a thinker to actually do the dirty work on an idea that hasn't a chance in the real world.
But if by chance I'm wrong about Mr. Duncombe, and he can summon up the intestinal fortitude to go himself, I will be more than happy to pay his airfare.

City blunder wrongs 20 people
To the Editor:
Your Thursday, Nov. 26, front page article should have read, "City of Goldendale blunders, 20 innocent citizens hung out to dry-PUD provides the rope."
How sad and wrong it is when your own city can't draw a map, but it can tell you for years you live in one place, then change its mind and get the Klickitat County PUD to assess you for three years back taxes! Who, I wonder, thought of three years? Unbelievable irresponsibility can be passed down by government, and, yes, citizens pay again. It is sad. Perhaps the name should change from Klickitat PUD to City of Goldendale Utility District. That would be more truthful, wouldn't it?
