Please plow with more care

To the Editor:
This letter is addressed to the County employee who plowed a two- plus foot snow berm in front of most of the residences along Harms Road.
I apologize in advance to other employees or people who may be offended. However, this looks as if it was a well-planned assault; and if you came home to this ice obstruction and had to shovel it for over an hour just to get through it, then you too wouldn't be happy after already working a nine- hour day. Also, it wouldn't take much of a brain to notice that almost all residences out here are on the east side of the road. Therefore, if you made your only one pass (as you did that day), you wouldn't trap people and you could still make it home to see The Simpsons or whatever program you watch that helps with having a bad day. I hope in the future that you realize that many people are looking for a job to do with respect, gratitude, and zeal.

Security is not all that secure

To the Editor:
We Americans are willing to put up with all kinds of indignities at airports because we want to be safe. A potential shoe bomber fumbles with matches and fails to ignite his pants and...what now?
Have any of the security measures thus far taken been successful at stopping potential bombers? If they had, we certainly would have heard about them. The latest incident explains it all. Intelligence (?) gets warnings from the guy's dad, and when he shows up at an airport in Nigeria to pay for a ticket with cash and has no baggage, he walks right on, not stopped by security. When he fails to ignite the explosives in his underwear, he is stopped by passengers and crew, not security.
Our people, once courageous to the point of "give me death," cower in fear and are willing to give up their rights for an empty promise of more safety.
Are the leaders of this country too blind not to see that we are headed in the wrong direction? Or is this the outcome that they want because some people are making out big time? We do not manufacture shoes here anymore, nor underpants, for that matter. We manufacture bombs, fighter jets, armored vehicles, bullets, drones, etc., that keep up the wars, and these industries will do well. In fact, invite them to come and make their stuff here in Klickitat County so that some may prosper.      The sons and daughters of those that prosper rarely go off to war to do the fighting. The children of working people are the ones to go kill and be killed. Is that the future you wish for your children?
