Please return stolen tools
To the Editor:
On Jan. 2, 2010, someone stole my black Craftsman toolbox my deceased grandfather had given me when I was six years old. I cherished that tool box very much. It was full of $400 worth of brand new tools my step-dad had given to me for Christmas and had a lot of meaning to me. He knows I want to be a mechanic when I grow up. I am 16 years old, and my mom took me to the police to report this crime. I told the officer that I have lived in this town my entire life and always leave things in the back of my truck without ever having a problem. He told me that times have changed and that you shouldn’t leave stuff like that out or have trust in anyone. Some of the tools that were stolen were still in their wrapper, and I never got to use them.
So to those who took my tools: if you have any conscience at all, please return them or call me at 509-773-5702. I am very saddened by this deed.

Why is Congress special?
To the Editor:
President Obama determined that social security recipients would not receive a Cost of Living Raise (COLA) in 2010 because inflation was so low that they didn’t qualify for a raise. When he announced that, I thought, OK, we all need to give a little because of the bad economic times.
Since then I have found out that most government employees (federal, state, and local) have gotten their raises as normal.
I wonder: does inflation not affect their raises? Why do they get COLA raises plus step pay increases? Congress is going to get their automatic pay raise, but why?
I have called government leaders from the president on down, and no one has given me a reason why they all get raises but social security recipients do not. Why don’t we all suffer the same? They must just be special.
