The facts about east end county revenue
To the Editor:
Having read the Java Talk report in The Sentinel, it really makes it necessary to respond to some very inaccurate information by Mr. McComas and Mr. Copenheffer. They both are reported to have stated that “this part of the county provides at least 50 percent of the whole county revenue” and “comments about 50 percent of the income coming from this end of the county—actually, I think it’s a lot higher than that.”
These two statements are totally incorrect. The facts are that the total county value for the tax year of 2010 is $3,067,233,083. The combined value for the three school districts of Bickleton, Prosser, and Roosevelt is $464,451,863. The math shows this figure to be only 15.1 percent of the county value and the county revenue in the east end of the county. Perhaps a correction should be made to the public of this fact. Thank you in advance.
