Way to go, Lady Pirates
To the Editor:
I want to congratulate you on your coverage of the State Basketball tournament. The picture of the team and coaches was beautiful—I could see the pride of accomplishment in each face. As a former area resident and Bickleton High School grad (1986), I am always pleased to see my alma mater covered by your paper. I am also pleased to be able to access it online from my home in Indiana.
Good job, Lady Pirates!

Don’t leave money on the table
To the Editor:
The tax year is upon us! The IRS has let it be known that there is $1.3 billion in unclaimed refunds for tax year 2006. In Washington State alone, the IRS estimates that are 37,000 households which failed to file tax returns for 2006, leaving $39.7 million on the table. This money will go back into who knows what fund if not claimed by this April 15.
Goldendale and Klickitat County families should take this opportunity to file an income tax return to claim any refund for which they might qualify. There are many fine tax preparers in our communities available to help. The AARP tax preparation volunteers work with low- to moderate-income households and seniors with free tax-prep and e-filing. Call 773-3411 to set up a free tax appointment.
Let’s keep this money in the hands of Goldendale’s families!

Why a water bill for no water?
To the Editor:
City of Goldendale—home of the no-water water bill.
I see in the Java Talk column that the city skirted the no-water water bill. That is to say, the city charges for having a water meter but no water supplied to the owner.
I wonder what is next on their agenda—charging real property tax for a lot with no house?
