How long will the cones be out?

To the Editor:
I am just wondering how long are those plastic cones which Soil Conservation had put out when they were planting trees in the county are going to stay in the fields? I think that they should be removed, as they are an eye sore. The only place I even see any trees coming up is just west of Goldendale on the hill. I am sure that I am not the only one who would like to see them removed.

How to turn back ‘creeping socialism’

To the Editor:
Every true patriot should have read the recent letter in your paper about creeping socialism infecting, like a cancer, the very marrow of our nation.
I think we all agree it’s time to stop it. But where to begin? I’ve taken the liberty to compile a list.
Social(ist) Security: It’s time to get Granny off the dole. They can invest with a reliable Wall Street firm, such as Lehman Bros. If that doesn’t work, I’ve got three words for you, Gramps: Get a job.
Electricity: You probably don’t realize it, but when you pay your electric bill each month, you’re supporting a socialistic enterprise. (What do you think “public” stands for in Klickitat Public Utility District?) The PUD must be disbanded immediately and the assets turned over to a private utility. And when your rates go up by half, it’ll be a small price for liberty.
Wind towers: They wouldn’t be here without connivance of government. Yank them out.
Farm aid: Socialist farmers—your neighbors!!!—have enrolled about a quarter of all Klickitat County farmland in the commie Conservation Reserve Program. They’re getting your tax dollars to not grow wheat.
The poor: They should stop their whining! True patriots are never poor. And if some parents bring a deathly sick child to the emergency room, here’s what we say: “No room at the inn, Pedro.”
Health insurance: Back in the good old days (last month), God-given and God-driven insurance companies could cancel your coverage once you had the audacity to actually get sick. Now they can’t, and all true patriots feel the grip of tyranny tighten.
Words: Finally, Congress must immediately pass legislation declaring that “socialism,” “Marxism,” “communism,” and “fascism” mean exactly the same thing—and all are accurate descriptions of our president. This will solve a little problem we’ve had for decades. Turns out dictionary lexicographers are closet Bolsheviks.
