Coverage of Coleman death inadequate

To the Editor:
I am writing to express my dismay at the apparent lack of effort in The Goldendale Sentinel’s coverage of the untimely passing of Master Sargeant Mark Coleman. A single paragraph doesn’t even come close to being acceptable when announcing the passing of a member of the community who dies in the service of our country, especially in the case of a recipient of the Bronze Star, one of our country’s highest honors.
Regardless of any one person’s opinion of the war we find ourselves currently in, there is no reasonable excuse for the total lack of any meaningful coverage of the loss of our friend, neighbor, son, relative, and hero. Other regional newspapers have done a much better job of relaying information about this tragedy. I find it discouraging that Mark’s own hometown paper couldn’t bring itself up to the same standard.
Mark was not only my childhood friend, but an inspiration as to how someone can achieve greatness through personal effort. He epitomizes the “can do” attitude that makes our nation great. What has transpired is not only a loss for his family but for us all, because his is truly a rare breed. I am honored to have known him and to have been his friend.
I’ll go ahead and assume that by the time this letter reaches print, a much more in-depth and responsible article will be printed. I sincerely hope that the local veterans in the community make you equally aware of their displeasure in what can only be seen as an injustice to any and all persons who have served our country, especially those who did so during a foreign conflict. The past should have taught us all that, no matter our politics, each and every serviceman in our communities deserves the utmost respect for their sacrifice, the more so for those like Master Sargeant Coleman, whose sacrifice was ultimate, for him and his family.

Right information on upcoming event

To The Editor:
I would like to clear up a misconception stated in last week’s “Hear’s Goldendale” article regarding the May 23 Fiddlin’ Under the Stars event. Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. there will be eight regional singer-songwriter duets and soloists. These artists were selected from 12 acts that auditioned for this event several months ago in Hood River. The “local singer/songwriters” referred to in Diana’s column performed at the Home and Garden Saturday Showcase several weeks ago. Thanks for the mention, but this is a huge distinction the public should be aware of.
Also, 45 Goldendale businesses have purchased 250 Sunday tickets to give away. If you shop local, you’ll find us.

A good doctor is hard to find

To the Editor:
I would like to express my appreciation for Dr. Jennifer Lentz for being one of the best doctors I’ve had. Sadly, she is leaving the family practice clinic in Goldendale to move to Colorado.
Unfortunately, I personally have been to many different doctors, and in many hospitals with my deceased parents, kid, and myself. Dr. Lentz always listens, and gives a diagnosis very accurately and quickly. She gives you what you ask for, if you know what you need. She is what good health care is all about—respect that goes both ways.
Dr. Lentz is well appreciated by many. She will be missed.
