Support the library
To the Editor:
Our family has been a regular patron of the Goldendale Community Library for over 22 years. In all that time we've seen the library keep pace with the increasing importance of personal computers and the Internet. In all that time, the ability to get books and other materials from other libraries, to take advantage of a full library staff and generous opened hours, print and copy material, and to take part in the many events that the library hosts, has proven the library to be an invaluable resource.
Now the library is asking for a modest levy to restore hours, staff and services that were recently curtailed due to a budget crunch. We fully support the requested levy of 50 cents per $1000 of assessed evaluation for property owners. A home assessed at $250,000 would see an increase of just $20 per year. That’s money well spent on such a valuable resource. Please vote for the levy on Aug. 17.

Grundei showed unusual honesty
To the Editor:
Like many people, I don’t automatically trust lawyers, but I have had a very positive experience with one.
In 1990, my aunt, Erma Gehrke, passed away. As she had no children, I inherited her house in Goldendale. In 1991, Gwendolyn Nichols, now Gwendolyn Grundei, purchased the house on a real estate contract. Gwendolyn was very faithful in making her contract payments, usually prepaying several at a time, ahead of deadlines.
In May 1996, she contacted me to obtain the final payment amount, as she wished to pay it off early. My husband checked the amortization table established in 1991, and gave Gwendolyn what he and I thought was the correct balance. Gwendolyn then called us back, concerned that we had given her a figure that was too low. My husband consulted a friend, who confirmed that we had misinterpreted the table and were short-changing ourselves some $1,600. We would have accepted payment and conveyed full title to Gwendolyn for the lesser amount had she not questioned the figure we gave her.
I have never lived in Klickitat County and cannot express an opinion on her legal qualifications for East District Court Judge, but I can attest to Gwendolyn’s honesty and good moral character in financial matters, as well as her professionalism in my dealings with her.

To the Editor:
Vote Adam DeHart. I have known Adam DeHart and his family for 15 years. Adam has a vast knowledge of real estate and land values. He would be a great asset to the assessor’s office. Adam’s attributes are focused on honesty, integrity, and fairness in all his activities. He has my vote.

To the Editor:
We have known Adam DeHart for over 20 years. He is honest, sincere, and hard working. He would greatly benefit Klickitat County as the next Assessor. We understand that the Assessor’s primary duty is determining the value of property. Adam has experience in construction. He is an accredited real estate appraiser for Klickitat County and he was a real estate agent. He knows values. Adam wants to work for all of us to ensure that we all receive fair, equal, and uniform property values. Let’s elect Adam DeHart for Assessor!
