Memory book for dear friend
To the Editor:
After the loss of my brother when I was only 19 and he was 21, someone put together a memory book for my family filled with priceless moments and interchanges with others we would never have known. It has been a treasure.
At the loss of my dear friend Charlene Dyment, and she having been a long time part of Centerville and Goldendale communities, I am compiling a memory book for the Dyment family to look at and read as they are ready.
If you have a memory with or of Charlene, a poem you’ve written or photo that you would like to share with the family, please email it to geraldteresa@embarqmail.com or send it to 34 S. Bailey Loop Dr., Goldendale, WA 98620.

Library levy vote encouraging
To the Editor:
I am so proud of the citizens of Klickitat County who staunchly voted to support their libraries to regain hours and expand collections.
As I write this, a positive outcome for the District library levy lid lift is likely, but it won’t be certified until August 31. Win, lose, or draw, the 63% YES vote from Klickitat County residents was influential in the district results.
You bet your vote counts! Thank you for helping our libraries help us.

Candidate not best for the job
To the Editor:
As a law enforcement veteran of almost 30 years, I looked at the position of Timber Deputy for Klickitat County as a potential bridge into retirement. Before applying for the job I wanted to know more about the candidates for prosecuting attorney. I spoke to Lori Hoctor at the Pioneer Picnic in Cleveland. I asked about her credentials for such an important job. I was stunned at what I learned.
Ms. Hoctor claimed that she was a deputy prosecutor for two years and never lost a case. Based on my experience, that sounded nearly impossible, so I did some research. The statement turned out to be misleading. Ms. Hoctor had a case dismissed in the West District Court after the start of the trial because she was unaware of an officer’s report and failed to discover it for the defendant—in other words, Ms. Hoctor was unprepared. Also, Ms. Hoctor never handled a criminal case above the district court level. She has no significant experience in juvenile or felony matters.
I was also disturbed to see the deceptive advertising for Ms. Hoctor. Claiming the support of “teachers,” “cattlemen,” “senior citizens” or other groups without specific endorsements from legitimate organizations is wrong. At least two such groups, the Cattlemen’s Association and the Teacher’s Association, had to publicize that they did not endorse anyone. Yet the ads appeared the next week, apparently unconcerned with the truth.
Honesty and integrity are essential in a prosecuting attorney. Lori Hoctor is not the person to fill that position.
