John Lester Tommila
John Tommila, 61, of Goldendale, died April 23, 2008, at his home in Goldendale.
John Lester Tommila was born in Lynne, Wisc., to Agnes (Weisinger) and Arvid Tommila on Oct. 24, 1946.
He grew up in Northern California. In 1997 he married Margaret “Mar’gi” Metsker in Nevada.
Throughout his life John worked managing RV parks, roofing and painting houses and logging. He also owned a body shop and worked for the civil service for nine years. John had many hobbies. He liked writing poetry and stories, fishing, and feeding and watching the birds around his home.
John’s most favorite thing to do, however, was gold mining, which he loved.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife Mar’gi of Goldendale; sons, Eric Tommila of Newport, Ore.; John Tommila, Jr., Mark Tommila and Travis Tommila all of Hawthorn, Nev.; and Ky Metsker of Bellingham; daughters, Lori Jo Tommila of Newport and Amanda Metsker of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Richard, Frank, Robert and Junior; sisters, Lucille and Shirley; mother, Agnes Lang of Willits, Calif.; and several grandchildren.
Though there will be no formal services, John’s family encourages people to remember him in their own special way.
