Lois Viola Heigh

Lois Viola Heigh, 72, of Goldendale, died May 13, 2008.
She was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Chico, Calif., to William and Viola Davis. She attended various schools in Chico, and lived in Arizona, California and Washington.
Lois was a mother of 10 children, which she referred to as his, mine and ours. Raising 10 children took all of her time, but everyone was able to go camping and fishing, which were special times for the family.
After the death of Lois’s second husband Donald, she lived with her daughter, Tina in Marysville. Then she went back to California for a few years, upon returning to Washington, finally making Goldendale her home. Living with her daughter Mary and her “wiener dogs,” which Lois called her four-legged kids. At one point she helped raise a dozen four-legged kids, loving and helping with puppy births.
Lois enjoyed spending the holidays with her son, Clarence and his family in Covington.
During her younger days, Lois worked as an almond huller, nurses’ aid and owned a small restaurant in Durham, Calif.
Lois was an active member of the Lions Club in Gridley, Calif. Upon moving to Goldendale, she became active with the Goldendale Lions Club, where she was secretary for the past eight years. Lois’s dedication to the club earned her several awards for 100 percent secretary for every year of service. She coordinated the club’s Sight and Sound Bus, White Cane Days and assisted Dr. Ogden with vision screening. Helping the community was one of her many passions.
Three years ago Lois joined the Scarlet Ladies Red Hat Society and participated by wearing her red hat and purple clothes, eating, playing games and going on road trips in her outlandish attire. She enjoyed hunting for special gifts for her secret sister.
Her hobbies included collecting trolls of all sizes and hair colors, playing bingo with a troll for good luck, tossing money at the casino, fishing, reading, working word puzzles and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Clarence Mitchell; second husband, Donald Heigh; sisters, Lillian Hall, Arretta Davis; brothers, little Clarence Davis and William Davis; and her daughter, Viola Mitchell.
Survivors include her children, Mary Tennant, of Goldendale, Clarence and Kathleen Mitchell of Covington, Wesley Heigh of Yakima, Tina and Randy Ervin of Marysville, Leona and Danny York of Buena, and Micheal and Alana Heigh of California; brothers and sisters, Alvin and Jerry Davis of Gridley, Calif., Doris and Bob Wilson of Chico, Marlene Smith of Gridley, and Wendell Hall of Boise Idaho; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held May 17.
Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.
