Betty Jean Better

Betty Jean Better, 78, died May 21, 2008, at her Goldendale home.
She was born in San Jacinto, Calif., on July 29, 1929, to Lillian F. Deming and Arthur H. Farmer.
Betty was raised in Hemet, Calif. While in high school, after the death of her parents, she moved to Torrance, Calif., where she met Richard Better. The couple married on Aug. 15, 1953. Betty and Richard saw the birth of their three children while making their home in Torrance. In 1963, the family moved to Adrienne, Mich., where they lived for 12 years.

It was in Goldendale that Betty became known for her incredible cake decorating skills as well as her gifts of kindness and time to her church, family, and many friends. She could create just about anything and worked extremely hard at all she did.
In 1995, Betty and Richard returned to Hemet spending the winter months there making new friends, playing water volleyball, and enjoying social hour and retired life. Betty truly enjoyed this stage of her life and more than once remarked to her children that, “Life begins at 50”.

Survivors include her children son, Dan Better and wife, Karla of Goldendale; daughters, Paula Huylar and husband, Steve of East Wenatchee, and Alice Better of Seattle. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
