Gailen Espirito

     Gailen Espirito, 30, of The Dalles died May 7, 2008.
     He was born in Goldendale, on Jan. 25, 1978, to Frank and Cynthia (Howtopat) Espirito.
     Gailen was raised and educated in Goldendale. He worked in maintenance for Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission for four years and was also a traditional fisherman, fishing in Lyle and Klickitat Falls.
     Gailen enjoyed going to the mountains, hunting and gathering traditional foods like roots and berries. He belonged to the Washut religion and was a family man who did everything with his loved ones.
     Survivors include his parents, Frank and Cynthia Espirito of Goldendale; sister, Elaine and Ralph Espirito; brothers, Thomas and Sonya and Sam Espirito; companion Mona Spino of The Dalles; children, Daylene, Damont, Delores and Danica; grandfathers, Nelson Moses and Samuel Smartlowit; grandmothers, Celia Buffalo and Nora Kahclamat; uncles Lindsey and Rachel, Austin, Glenn and Peter Howtopat; aunts, Marie Olney, Mary Kahclamet, Rosanna and Tom Jim, Elaine and Phil Howtopat; special brothers Buck Jones, Joel Henry, Mike Broncheau and Les Brown; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
     Dressing and overnight services were held on May 21, at Wind River Longhouse at Home Valley Park, burial took place at sunrise the next day in Black Wolf Cemetery at Rock Creek.
     Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon handled arrangements.
