Gail Howard
Lucy Gail Howard, 68, of Bingen, died May 25, 2008.
She was born Nov. 9, 1939, in New Orleans, La., to Lake Dupree and Georgie Margaret Roberts Dupree.
Gail grew up in New Orleans and moved to Crowley, La., at age nine.
She graduated from Crowley High School in 1957, and then attended T.L. James Technical School taking secretarial courses.
Gail joined the United States Air Force in 1958, she was Airman 2 Class and was honorably discharged in 1960.
From a brief marriage Gail had a daughter, Julie, in 1961.
In 1964, Gail worked for the State Department of Public Assistance. It was at this time that she met her true love Bill “Willy” Howard. They married in Dec. of 1966.
In 1969, shortly after the birth of their son, Willy and Gail moved to White Salmon, making it their home.
Gail enjoyed homemaking, family activities, needle point, jigsaw puzzles and traveling.
She was a Girl Scout leader for 11 years for her daughter Julie, and attended all of her son Lake’s sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willy, and great-grandchild, Landen Scott.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie Howard of Bingen; son, Lake Howard and his wife Sheila of Goldendale; sister, Pauline Zaunbrecher of Crowley, La.; grandchildren, Jaqi Williams, Ashlee Williams, Raymond Conklin, Elora Conklin, Jeffrey Howard and Kelsey Howard; great-grandchildren, Tatyana Steele, Rayna Steele and Chance Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.
