They lived in Goldendale, and moved with their three children to the Independence area in 1963.
He worked for the Salem School District and then went to work for the City of Salem as an accounting supervisor in the Finance Department a position he held for 20 years until his retirement in July 1994.
In his retirement he enjoyed fishing, growing roses and working in his garden. Jerry enjoyed time at the Monmouth Senior Center where he was on the Board of Directors.
Survivors include his sisters, Joyce DeChenne of Grants Pass, and Erin and David Schroeder of Bend; sons, Garth and Jann Mattson of Vancouver, and Jeffrey and Becky Mattson of Eugene; grandchildren, Abrie Schroeder, Natalie Schroeder and Kim Darnell.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 20, at the Monmouth Senior Center 180 S. Warren St. Monmouth, Ore.
