Ronald Bruce Holmes

     Ronald Bruce Holmes, 66, of Goldendale, died July 12.
     Holmes was born Nov. 16, 1941, in Portland, to Stuart G. Ashmusen and Donna R. Hassler.
He was raised in Oak Grove, by his grandparents, Ray and Gracie Hassler and graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1959.
     Primarily an automobile salesman during his working years, Holmes also worked as a fire systems installer, pipe fitter and small business owner.
     Due to a work-related injury in 1988, he retired and moved to Goldendale in 1995, where he built a family-run real estate company.
     A champion roller skater as a youth, Holmes later became interested in cars and racing, and he was a member of the Sports Car Club of America.
     He coached youth baseball and organized the South Powell Little League in Portland, in the mid-1970s. He enjoyed fishing, cribbage, pinball, casino games and watching sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and former wife Shirley J. Wilson.
          Survivors include his father, Stuart G. Ashmusen of Goldendale; four sons, Ronald J. Johnson and his wife Peggy of Payson, Ariz., Randall J. Meyer of Sherwood, David H. Hassler of Goldendale and son Reginald J. Holmes of Hillsboro; three daughters, Dyanna L. Setondji and her husband Alexis of Milwaukie, Raenee J. Thomas and her husband Jerry ,of Klamath Falls, and Ronda J. Vivlemore and her husband, Scott of Aloha; brothers, Andrew Holmes Jr., of Sisters, and Richard Holmes of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren, former wife, Samantha L. Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Cremation arrangements made by Gardner Funeral Home of White Salmon.
     At Ronald’s request, there was no public memorial service.
     A gathering of remembrance in Goldendale for friends will be announced later.
