Lowell Vivienne Gilbert
Lowell Vivienne Gilbert, age 86, died Oct. 2, 2008, in Phoenix, Ariz., where she had been living.
“Viv” was born to Iva and Vernon Britton Jan. 23, 1922, at Atchison, Kansas. The family moved to The Dalles in the 1930’s and Viv graduated from The Dalles High School in 1940.
After working at Wray’s Drug, she left there to go to work in Vancouver at the shipyards. Her boss was Bud Gilbert whom she married July 4, 1945. They had two children, Corinne and Brian.
Viv and Bud moved their family to Goldendale in May 1962. Viv worked for Sletten’s Dept. Store and then Pikes Pharmacy, which later became Larson Drug. There she worked with her very good friend, Jean Granum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bud in April 0f 1975, and her sister, Verna Young.
Survivors include her children, Corinne McEwen and husband Gregory of Goldendale and Brian Gilbert of Phoenix, Ariz.; a grandson, Hoyt McEwen and his wife, Carrielynn, and two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Natalie McEwen, all of Pendleton.
Graveside services will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made charity of donor’s choice.
