Audrey Alice Bright
Audrey Alice Bright, 90, of Goldendale, died Oct. 18, 2008.
She was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Toronto, Canada to John Robert Dobson and Maud A. (Lofthouse) Dobson.
She and her family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., when Audrey was a teenager. There she met and married Leroy Albert (Curly) Bright in 1937. They had two sons, John Leroy in 1939, and Jeffrey Allen in 1944.
She was preceded in death by her husband Curly; son, Jeff; and a granddaughter, Karen Lynne.
After Curly’s death in 1960, Audrey went to work as a secretary. She worked her way up to being secretary to the superintendent of schools in Duarte, Calif., and retired as secretary to the president of the Claremont School of Theology at the Pomona, Calif., college complex.
In the 1950’s Audrey played semi-pro softball for the Azusa Rockettes playing both pitcher and second base.
In 1988, Audrey and her son Jeff moved to Goldendale, to be nearer her son, John.
Audrey and Jeff owned and operated the Victorian House Bed and Breakfast until Jeff’s death in 2002. At that time Audrey moved in with John and his wife Nan.
Audrey loved to garden, she canned fruits and vegetables and made jams for her family, friends and to serve her customers at the bed and breakfast.
Audrey always had time to spend with her cats and dogs which she loved dearly.
Survivors include her son, John and his wife, Nan of Goldendale; three grandsons, Daniel of North Hills, Calif.; Joseph and his wife, Debbie of Yakima and Oliver and his wife, Laurie of Casper, Wyo.; one granddaughter, Amanda of Austin, Texas; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. at the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Goldendale.
