Daniel Fred Phillips
Daniel Fred Phillips,62, died unexpectedly in The Dalles on Nov. 11, 2008.
He was born March 23, 1946, to Molly (Baker) and Fred G. Phillips in Seattle.
Dan attended Ballard High School where he was a student athlete and participated in boxing for the Y until his junior year. In 1970, he received his GED from Green River College in Auburn, Wash. He later moved to Portland, were he worked as a Journeyman Marine Machinist. From 1984 until 1988, he lived in Alaska were he worked for Halt and Tractor, and also ran his own business, “Mr. Wood,” which was a commercial firewood and logging business. He then went to work for the Ketchikan Shipyard. He moved to Vancouver in 1989.
In 1992, Dan settled in Goldendale. He worked for Western RV in Yakima and loved Central Washington. Most recently, he worked for Mt. Adams Transit as a van driver, a job he loved as he felt he was helping people and making their lives a bit easier.
Dan had many hobbies. Outdoor activities he enjoyed were riding horses, camping, hunting and sitting outside stargazing. He was a train enthusiast and loved to work on his Fords. He loved traveling and being with his kids, telling stories with morals (usually forgetting the moral halfway through) and always liked a good barbeque. Dan was a kind man who loved helping people and volunteered with the Salvation Army Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Corina Phillips; brother, Billy Phillips; sister, Patty Phillips; father, Fred Phillips; and first wife Sandy Phillips.
He is survived by Ramona Sparks, of Goldendale; daughters Kamala Robbins of Texas and her three children; Kimalyn Brown of Portland and her three children; son, Daniel Phillips, of Goldendale with his three boys; daughter, Krystal Phillips, of Goldendale; son, Dwayne Phillips, of Goldendale and his chidren; mother, Florence Phillps, of Algona, Wash.; brothers, Bobby McMann and Freddy Phillips, both of Seattle; sisters, Laureen, Jane and Sue Phillips, all of Algona; twelve grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Silver. Dan will also be missed by Ramona’s children: John Chaney, David Sparks, Bobby Jones and Reida Van Volkenburg and all their children.
Dan will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held Nov. 19 at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel with burial at the White Salmon Cemetery.
