Wayne Ward Byers

Wayne Ward Byers, 89, of Goldendale, died Nov. 9, 2008, as the result of a car accident. He was born March 8, 1919, to Roy and Gertrude Byers in Knightsville, Ind.
Wayne went to Southern Junior College where he met his future wife, Isabel, whom he wed on Aug. 30, 1942, at Indiana Academy in Cicero, Ind.
Upon graduation from Emmanuel Missionary College in Burien Springs, Mich., Wayne went to work for the Indiana Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists as a minister. He also pastored a number of churches in Wisconsin and in 1966 moved his family to Goldendale, where he pastored the church until 1973. Other churches he pastored included Fairfield and Farmington, Sunnyside and Granger. During this time Wayne and Isabel raised four sons that they were very proud of.
When Wayne retired in 1981 with 27 years of service dedicated to others, he and Isabel returned to Goldendale where they built a home on their eight acres. Wayne’s retirement was spent with Isabel, gardening, fishing, golfing and traveling to visit the many friends they had made during their 66 years together.
He was preceded in death by his son, Alan, on Sept. 19, 2008.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Isabel, of Goldendale; sons, Dan of Goldendale, Norm of Highland Park, Colo., with his wife Karen and son Alex, Wally of Lake Oswego, Ore., with his wife Brenda as well as grandson Scott of Battle Ground, with his wife Susan and daughter Camryn.
Wayne will be greatly missed by his family and many friends throughout the United States.
