Duane Roehrick
Duane Roehrick, 65, died Jan. 5, 2009, in Goldendale.
Duane was born in Seattle, on Mar. 1, 1943 to Mary Roseanna (Carter) and Anton (Tony) Lee Roehrick. He attended Highline High School in Burien, and on June 10, 1961 married Georgia Kaye Kottke at St. Philameno Parish in Federal Way.
Duane worked as a mechanic for Boeing and as a supervisor for PIE (Pacific Inter-mountain Express) Trucking Company. In 1998 he settled in Goldendale.
Duane started flying at the age of 19 and it became a lifelong passion. He lived on his own airport and throughout his life owned several planes including a Stinson Voyager, Cessna 195, Cessna 185 float plane on wheels and a 182 Skylane. He loved camping and every year would fly into Idaho for a camping trip. Duane also flew to Alaska and Mexico. In 1995, Mr. Roehrick quit flying for health reasons, but continued to enjoy “Hangar Flying,” which is jabbering about flying while you’re in the hangar.
Duane was very mechanical. He stripped his 1948 Willys Jeep down to nothing and completely overhauled it. He also stripped and painted two airplanes. Duane was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his son Kim, in 1986 and brother Donald, in 2004.
Survivors include his wife Georgia Roehrick of Goldendale; daughter, Cindy Gua of Renton; brother, Al Roehrick of St. Maries, Idaho; and grandchildren, Erin Gua and Adam Gua. Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
