Marlene Delia Nygaard
Marlene Delia Nygaard, 85, of Goldendale, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 2009.
She was born to Everett and Emma Schrantz on June 28, 1923, in Dot. Marlene was raised on a farm and attended a one-room school for the first eight years of her education. She graduated from Bickleton High School in 1941. From there, she attended Washington State University between 1941 and 1946 and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Home Economics.
Marlene married Arnold Emil Nygaard in August of 1945 and became a dedicated housewife and mother to four children.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Arnold; her brother, Vernon; and her great-granddaughter, Jordan.
Marlene is survived by her four children, Steven and wife, Mary, of Goldendale, Larry and wife, Linda, of Snohomish, Rita and husband, Tim, of Tacoma, and Alan and wife, Julie, of Sumner; along with grandchildren, Mandy and husband, Dennis, Carrie and husband, Travis, Sarah and husband, Ryan, Andrew and wife, Sophia, Sarah and husband, James, Stacie, Jessie, Wendy and husband, Doug, Carl and Saylor; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Kate, Tyler and Angelina.
Marlene was a long-term member of the Goldendale Grange. She held several offices throughout the years, including lecturer and women's activity chairman. She was also a member of the Methodist Church and participated by serving meals and providing communion bread for several years. Marlene enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, watching birds, dancing, visiting with friends, and family gatherings.
Marlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be sent to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society (www.komen.org) or the Alzheimer's Society (www.alzheimers.org).
