Bernard Shepler

     Bernard Shepler (Bernie) 89, died on Mar. 5, 2009, in Dallesport.
     He was born in Lewiston, Idaho on Feb. 9 1920, to Benjamin Shepler and Audrey Smails.
Bernie served in the Navy in 1942 and was recognized as the oldest living veteran in Klickitat County.      In 1952, he built the Shepler Trailer Court in Dallesport.
     Bernie was a business man and ran two taverns in Goldendale. Bernie also worked on the dams and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
     Bernie and his wife Beatrice married Feb. 9, 1974, and were blessed with many wonderful years together. Bernie became the Santa Claus for the Salvation Army in 2006. He was a joy to watch distribute presents to all the children at the annual Salvation Army Christmas programs. Bernie also enjoyed tinkering on his 1931 Ford Model convertible pick up truck.
     China was his greatest traveling experience. He also enjoyed gardening.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, Harold Shepler. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Shepler, and her daughter, Judy Wilson; his children, Randy Shepler and Carla Hall and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Diana, of White Salmon.
