Kenneth A. West
Kenneth Adrian West, 80, died Mar. 16, 2009, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
Kenneth was born May 5, 1928, in Goldendale, the third of three children born to George Clinton and Clara Mae Moser West. After graduating from Goldendale High School in 1946, he began working in the logging industry. Kenneth married Pearl Hodgson on Jan. 12, 1952, in Goldendale. After being drafted into the Army in June of 1952, Kenneth was trained as a radioteletype operator, and served over a year in Germany, before being discharged in May of 1954 as a Tech Corporal. The family then moved to Naches, where Kenneth continued working for Layman Logging.
Kenneth then became an agent for Farmers Insurance Group, working out of an office in Yakima. After 20 years of service, the couple retired in 1991 to Walla Walla and College Place, where Kenneth worked at Bechtel's Woodworking, where he specialized in building face frames and drawers. Kenneth also enjoyed fishing, RV'ing, and trips to Hawaii and Arizona.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, elder brother Thomas West, and by a stillborn son in 1956.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl West, of College Place; daughters Rhonda Erbenich and Carmel Bechtel, both of Walla Walla; sister Ardyth Miller of Arizona; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on March 28, at the City Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2133 Howard Street in Walla Walla. Private burial will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Goldendale.
