Bob Tipton
Robert Junior Tipton, known as Bob to many, died in Lyle, on March 30, 2009 at the age of 86.
Bob was born in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, on Nov. 12, 1922, the son of Olive Aleta (Mummy) and Otis Emersen Tipton.
He attended schools in Ohio. On Jan. 29, 1945, Bob married Dorothy Liefke in Tacoma, and the couple moved to Klickitat, in 1950. Bob served two tours in the United States Navy during World War II and was a crew member on Admiral Byrd's final polar expedition. After his honorable discharge from military service, Bob was employed at the lumber mill and worked there until his retirement. Bob was a member of the American Legion and loved playing with his dog.
Survivors include one sister, Thelma Heck of Gnadenhutten, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, who passed away in 1987, and his sister Betty West, who died in 2008.
A graveside service was held at Mt. View Cemetery in Goldendale, Washington on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 1 pm. Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.
