Nancy Kristine VanHorn
Nancy K. VanHorn, 38, of Goldendale, died May 19, 2009.
She was born, Nancy K. Ratliff, in The Dalles, Oct. 12, 1970, to Betty Rasmussen and Earl Ratliff. Nancy grew up in Wishram, a place that left her with fond memories and lifelong friends. She moved to Goldendale in the mid-1980s, where she met and married Dave VanHorn. Together, they worked on her proudest accomplishment, the building of a loving and happy family.
She dedicated several years to being an advocate against domestic violence and sexual assault, and spent time volunteering at Relay for Life events. But the work she loved most was her time spent as a Klickitat County Emergency Medical Technician. Her devotion to helping others shone through in nearly everything she did.
Her mother, Betty Rasmussen, and an infant sister, Shirley, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Dave; daughters, Kathy, Jennifer and Asia; her father, Earl Ratliff; sisters, Julia, Donna, Marrion, Patty and Jessica; brothers, Thomas, Earl Jr., and Jeffery, and numerous nieces, nephews, and many loved ones.
A celebration of her life was held May 23, in Wishram. Donations can be made in her honor to The Dalles chapter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
