Ivo Goedde

Ivo Arnold Goedde, 92, of Goldendale, died Aug. 25, 2009 at a care center in The Dalles.
He was born July 8, 1917 on a farm at Butte, Neb., to William and Ida (Hoefer) Goedde, the seventh of nine children. Along with his brother, Joe, Ivo made the trip to Chelan, to settle the affairs of another brother, Leo, after his accidental death and both brothers moved west with their young families.
He lived and worked as a mechanic in that area and the Pasco area until his move to Goldendale in the 1950’s to work for Radke Motors and also a number of years for the city of Goldendale. Ivo’s 50-plus years with the Chrysler Corp. brought him letters of appreciation for his foresight of potential problems and many letters and calls of thanks from travelers, with their disabled vehicles, that he would work past closing to get them back on the road and safely home. This love of his work also brought into his life his good friend, Dr. James Ogden.
Upon retiring, he owned and operated Ivo’s Auto Repair until the 1990’s. He enjoyed square dancing, his Road-Runners’ Singles Club and especially his garden.
He married Jean Peterson on July 12, 1991, in East Wenatchee, by Fr. Semus Kerr. They resided in Goldendale until his move to an adult care facility in The Dalles, in January of this year, where he died on Aug. 25.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; five children, Larry (Barbara) Goedde of Boise, Idaho, Barbara (Keith) Rife, Patricia (Fred) Finnigan and Robert Goedde all of Chelan, and Phyllis (Glen) Conaway of Renton; his brother, Herb Goedde of Chelan and sisters, Irene Hemmer of Arlington, and Zita Theis of Omak. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and his five step-children, Darla (Kevin) Graham of Olympia, Mark Peterson of Goldendale, Rex Peterson of Oroville, Dawn (Ric) Wyzykowski of Goldendale and Cris (Winnie) Peterson of Godwin, N.C., and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass was held Aug. 31, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goldendale, with interment at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Goldendale.
Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.
