John Tate
John Errol Tate, 89, died Sept. 24, 2009, at his home in Goldendale.
He was born June 23, 1920, in Winterset, Iowa, to Minnie (Hendricks) and Edwin Tate. He graduated from Washougal High School and was a letterman in sports. After graduating, he joined the Army and spent four years in North Africa and Italy. During his working years, he worked for Bonneville Power Administration, Washington State Highway Department, S.P.S. Railroad, Umatilla Ordinance Depot and various union and sawmill jobs. Later, he bought a wheat and cattle ranch at Centerville. His brand was T8.
After retiring from farming, he moved to Snowden, and later to Goldendale.
He was a member of the Grange and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Margaret (Maggie); his brother Paul Tate and wife Jean of Goldendale; nephews Dan Tate and wife Christine of Goldendale, Bill Tate and wife Judy of Mill-A; nieces Karol Tate of Goldendale, Judi Whitehouse and husband Joe of Yakima, Vicky Parsons and husband, Chuck of Lyle; stepchildren, Kurt Brodgrick and wife Terry of Bakersfield, Calif., Kathleen Martin of Redding, Calif., Brian Brodgrick and wife Janet of Bakersfield, and Ken Siders and wife Mararet of Orchards; his cousin Ben Tate of Pendleton, and several great-nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Edwin Tate; sister, Margarite Tate; nieces Nicolette Tate and Paula Tate.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled cremation arrangements.
