Steven J. Smith

     Steven J. Smith, 55, of the Forest Grove community, died Jan. 5, 2010, at the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, Ore.
     Steve was born June 18, 1954, in Goldendale, the son of Walter Raymond Smith and Jacqueline Rae (Kitchens) Smith. He was raised and received his education in the Goldendale community, having graduated from Goldendale High School Class of 1972, following that up with graduation from UTI, a Portland Technical Training school, in 1974.
     He was united in marriage to Debra L. Hill on July 15, 1978, in the Tualatin Plains Presbyterian Church (Old Scotch Church) in Hillsboro, Ore. Following their marriage, they resided in the Forest Grove community, until 1986 when they moved to the Hillsboro community. Together they had a daughter and a son, Abby and Ian. They later divorced.
     Steve worked for Tektronix, Inc., as an electronics technician for the past 36 years. He also worked part time for Custom Electronics for 16 years.
     Among his special interests, he enjoyed movies, and playing basketball with friends and on many community teams, along with enjoying a round of golf now and then. He was an avid fan of all sports, particularly of the Portland Trailblazers. He also liked woodworking, home remodeling and he had a special love for spending time with his children.
     Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. and Jacqueline R. Smith.
     Survivors include his daughter, Abby E. Smith, of Forest Grove, Ore.; his son, Ian A. Smith, of Hillsboro, Ore.; two brothers, Michael G. Smith, of Yakima, and Dale W. Smith, of Seattle; and his former wife, Debi Joarnt, of Hillsboro, Ore.
     A celebration of his life will be held at the Prime Time Sports Bar and Restaurant in Forest Grove, Ore., Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at 1 p.m.
     Private family services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Mountain View Memorial Garden Mausoleum, in Forest Grove, Ore.
