Chester 'Chet' Gronewold
Funeral services for Chester “Chet” Gronewold, 59, Lewisville, Minn., were held on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville, with Rev. Brian Thorson officiating. Interment with military honors by the Lewisville American Legion Post 561 took place in the church cemetery.
Chet died at his home in rural Lewisville on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010. Arrangements were handled by Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman.
Chester Michael Gronewold was born on October 19, 1950, in Madelia, Minn., to Phillip and Amelia (Eads) Gronewold. He was baptized on Nov. 12, 1950, and confirmed on May 15, 1964, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. Chet attended school in Truman, graduating in 1968. After high school he attended Jackson Vocational for HVAC. Chet was a third generation farmer in the Lewisville area. In 1980, Chet joined the US Air Force Reserves and retired after 21 years. He was a member of the burial honor guard with the reserves. In November of 2007, Chet started employment with KEMCO where he was a wire installation specialist for wind generators. He travelled with KEMCO to Iowa, Texas, and Goldendale. In December of 2009, Chet began employment with Poet Bio-refining in Lake Crystal, where he was a plant operator. Chet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Lewisville American Legion Post 561. Chet enjoyed farming, golfing, fishing, hunting, coaching softball and demolition derby. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, children and family.
Chet is survived by his wife, Anna Gronewold, Lewisville, Minn.; daughters, Sara Maldonado (Jose), Laredo, Texas, Amy Stedman, Lakota, Iowa, Patricia Luna, Mankato, Amanda Sullivan, Mankato, Alesha Sullivan, Mankato. Minn.; grandchildren, Timothy, Katrina, Tyler, Dilin, Elijah, Dominque, Joey, Jaymes, Evelyn, Audrick; one great grandchild; parents, Phillip and Amelia Gronewold; two sisters, Jeanne (Bevan “BB”) Burroughs, Elgin, Texas, Wendy Gjerde, Lafayette, Minn.; two brothers, Kerry (Linda) Gronewold, Fairbanks, Alaska, Larry (Peggy) Gronewold, Peru, Maine; two brothers-in-law, Dave (Wanda) Hendricks of Lake Crystal, Minn., James “Andy” Helquist, Kissimmee, Fla., and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Chet was preceded in death by daughters, Daniell Gronewold and Ashley Sullivan, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
