Melvin Allen Parcell
Melvin Parcell died at his home in Goldendale, on Jan. 19, 2010, at the age of 74.
Melvin Allen Parcell was born in Compton, Calif., on Jan. 5, 1936, to Gwyn L. and Helen M. (Goosby) Parcell. He was raised in Gardena, Calif., and after graduating from high school joined the Marine Corps. Melvin married Faye N. Cloninger in Bellflower, Calif., on July 13, 1956, and the couple moved to Vancouver in 1958. Parcell continued to honor his country by serving in the Marine Corps Reserves, receiving his discharge in 1961. He worked for the paper mill in Vancouver, then as a boilermaker welder, before becoming a pipefitter, retiring in 1999. Upon his retirement, Melvin and Faye moved to Goldendale, where they have made their home for the past 10 years.
Parcell was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Goldendale and Vancouver and attended church at the Praise Barn. He liked to fish and play pinochle.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Parcell, of Goldendale; son David Parcell of Vancouver; daughter Gwen Mosbrucker of Goldendale; sisters Maureen Edwards of Roseville, Calif., and Aleen Stekoll of Okmulgee, Okla.; and three grandchildren Mindy, Mandy, and Gabe. Preceding him in death are brother Jack Parcell and sisters Helen Lawson and Rosalee Hager.
A memorial reception will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Goldendale Senior Center. Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled cremation arrangements.
